Background in numbers and people

Zanele’s career began at a Klerksdorp hardware wholesaler, sorting out trade supplier schedules and keeping the paydays smooth for the team. She later handled staff onboarding and payroll at a small Phalaborwa furniture importer, where she learnt the difference between UIF forms and COIDA slips the hard way, sorting a backlog one stormy April before Easter. With over ten years’ experience in supplier operations, she knows how to keep a supplier visit or onboarding review on track, even when there’s load-shedding or the regional taxi routes are delayed.

What she leads at BizMagic

At BizMagic, Zanele is the quiet operator behind the People & hubs wheel. She books the weekly supplier hub sessions in Rosebank, Stellenbosch, Durban and other spots, all by email. Her focus is on making sure founders, like Lindiwe from Phalaborwa Fruit Chutney Co, never wait too long for a supplier shortlist review. Zanele also helps new teams settle in with onboarding calls, pointing them to the right starter kit for their business and reminding them when to forward their FICA packs or municipal trading permits. She brings the same practical touch whether your business is based in Klerksdorp or tucked away in a Woodstock side street.

How Zanele runs a session

A session with Zanele runs on punctuality, simple reminders and a bit of local patience. Beforehand, she’ll double-check you have the right meeting slot, make sure the email calendar is set up correctly and follow up on what was promised in the previous week’s ops ritual. If you’re meeting her at the Sandton hub, she’ll even warn you about the car guard rates near the taxi rank. Her calls are light on small talk and heavy on action points, but she always has time to help a founder who’s lost their supplier’s VAT201 copy or needs help prepping for the 25th payroll crunch.

Her checklists and habits

Zanele swears by her checklists, always clipped to a real paper folder, digital reminders are great, but nothing beats her yellow pad for ticking off a supplier’s COIDA registration or checking the expiry date on a board member’s B-BBEE affidavit. Her main habits: reviewing her calendar every Friday lunchtime, keeping a running list of outstanding items for each business on her own phone, and always sending follow-up reminders when supplier info is missing. She once called a Klerksdorp bakery twice in one morning after they forgot their EMP201 form. Can’t blame her: if something slips, the chaos can double up so quickly.

  • Friday calendar review at 1pm sharp
  • Paper checklists for all onboarding tasks
  • Weekly reminder emails for supplier deadlines
  • Separate follow-up list for each region (so nothing slips between Phalaborwa and Woodstock)
  • Notes on regional power issues to warn founders about expected delays

In her own words

"When a founder trusts you with their supplier hours or onboarding, you can’t be the reason something’s late. I always say, check twice, follow up, and don’t assume anything is sorted until you see the SARS or CIPC receipt in your inbox. Klerksdorp or Cape Town, ops hasn’t changed much, just the post office queue is longer now."
