Observatory Cape Town supplier hub looking toward Table Mountain from Lower Main Road

Where you’ll find us in Obs

Observatory Studio, Room A, sits right on Lower Main Road, a few shops down from A Touch of Madness and across from Spar. You’re sandwiched between Salt River and Mowbray, with Woodstock and the CBD only a dash away. Most founders come in from places like Pinelands, Kenilworth or Muizenberg, using the M4 or N2 highways. The Observatory station is a 7-minute walk, while MyCiTi and Golden Arrow buses run all day. Taxis line up outside the Pick n Pay. The weather shifts between cool Atlantic mornings and muggy afternoons, especially in February and March. Obs feels right for business kit decisions: diverse trade, creative studios, print shops, tailors, and endless coffee.

What happens at HQ sessions

The Observatory hub is for serious kit reviews and Counter Hour Charms. This is HQ, so you get to test new kits like the Launch Deck, Digital Spark or Ritual Pack, plus run focused admin sprints with our ops operators. Founders from all over Cape Town (think Charly’s Sandwich Shop or Greenmarket Books) come to review their tools, compare supplier quotes, or structure their week using Counter Hour Charms. It’s also where we handle account queries about kit orders and share updates from other supplier hubs. No walk-ins. You must book ahead by email to magic@bizmagic.co.za so we can prep the right kit and reserve your slot.

Getting here and parking essentials

Lower Main Road can get tight from 2pm, especially during UCT exam weeks and when the rain buckets down in July. There’s public parking outside Spar, but the spaces near the Studio fill up fast by 8:30am. Some founders park at the Village Green and walk five minutes. If you’ve got deliveries (say, for a Salt River fashion embroidery business), give us a heads up in your booking email so we can meet you at the back entrance. The lift can be a bit temperamental during load-shedding Stage 4, so the stairs are the safer bet for now.

How to prepare for your session

Bring what you actually use: the last two months’ invoices, your phone (charged!), a SARS eFiling login, CIPC documents, and a list of suppliers you want to review. Obs founders often carry printouts from the Woodstock branch of Absa (for FICA), or notes from their last BizMagic kit order. If you're joining a Counter Hour review, have your paperwork sorted by day (Monday to Friday is ideal, but some land up with everything dated the 25th, it’s alright, we see it alot). If you’re not sure what sort of session suits, read up on ops rituals first.

  • Two months’ worth of supplier invoices
  • Phone with banking apps and camera
  • SARS eFiling login details
  • CIPC registration certificate (PDF or printed)
  • Core business email contacts, ready to go
  • Any BizMagic kit order references
  • Supplier shortlist for discussion

Timing, power and what to expect

Sessions run on strict slots: mostly 45 or 90 minutes, with slots starting as early as 07:45 and last bookings at 15:30. Cape Town’s power grid is unpredictable, with short notice for load-shedding. We’ve got backup lights, but it’s smart to come with a charged laptop and a power bank, especially if you’re tackling a Counter Hour Brief. Expect strong coffee, wireless (fibre, usually steady), and a lineup of other founders, from a Wynberg dog biscuit maker to a Sea Point travel planner, using the same tools. Bring your questions and don’t forget: all session notes get sent on email after, so you can keep your operations tidy.
