Pretoria supplier hub

Your first hire in Pretoria doesn’t have to keep you up through a Highveld thunderstorm.

Where to find us in Menlyn

You’ll find our Pretoria supplier hub at Menlyn Trade Studio, Suite 2.04, just off Atterbury Road. It’s on the Gautrain bus route between Hatfield and Menlyn Maine, with local taxis from Sunnyside, Arcadia and Brooklyn passing right by the big intersection at Lois Ave. For drivers, parking is safe but fills up quickly by 10am especially around month-end. The Woolies on the corner is a handy landmark. When storms hit (they do, usually from about October to March) the covered walkway comes in handy for those last-minute dashes inside. We’re an appointment-only spot, please book by email before coming.

What happens in a Hire Charm session

Pretoria founders often see their first-ever hire as a turning point. At Menlyn, our Hire Charm and first-hire reviews get down to the nitty gritty: advertising roles, shortlisting, SARS EMP201 basics, UIF registration, and drafting your first employment letter. Typical visitors are owner-operators like Sanele from Soshanguve, who runs a mobile carwash and needs a flexible contract, or Tumi in Equestria, whose online bakery grows by the order. Tshwane’s mix of professional services, construction, light manufacturing and plenty of student-driven side hustles means the questions vary, but the admin is always specific. Sessions are never group sessions: it’s just you, your business and the next step.

What to bring and how to prepare

You’ll get the most out of your slot if you arrive with a few things ready. Pretoria founders usually bring ID copies (yours, and your new hire’s if you have one), CIPC registration, proof of business address (a municipal bill from your Pretoria East flat works fine), and your SARS eFiling login. If you’re coming for a first-hire review, jot down any questions about your employment contracts or staff payment days (most folks use the 25th, some like Fridays). A list of expected tasks for your new staff helps focus the session, if you’re unsure, see our Counter Hour Charm kit or the Counter Hour brief. Don’t forget a working charger, load-shedding hits Menlyn too.

Power, timing and local quirks

Sessions run Mondays to Thursdays between 9am and 3pm. Fridays are available by request, but traffic from Centurion and the Ben Schoeman can be wild after lunch. If you’re using taxis, peak times follow the Arcadia campus and UNISA class times, so a midday slot often saves you trouble. Load-shedding is almost always Stage 2 or 4 in Pretoria East: there’s a backup inverter, but bring a power bank just in case, one regular brought in a two-metre extension last month. After your session, we’ll email you follow-up notes and practical checklists. For supplier details, check our full supplier hub list and if you want a cash calendar or rituals for growing teams, browse the starter kits and ops rituals.

What makes Pretoria’s hub different

Pretoria’s mix of students, family businesses and specialist suppliers means everyone’s balancing two worlds. You’re as likely to need a POPI consent form as a time sheet template. We see alot of founders from Garsfontein, Mooikloof and The Reeds, many juggle brick-and-mortar basics with online sales and quick staff changes. Local suppliers tend to move fast on paperwork but can be strict on municipal compliance, so it pays to bring more documents than you think you’ll need. For notes on local suppliers or trade tips, check out supplier notes or see our project packs for when your new hire is already lined up.
