Launch week ritual
When Siphiwe from Klerksdorp needed his signage business up and running by Friday, he started with the Launch Week Ritual.
When to kick off launch week
Launch Week Ritual gets your business from idea to bankable within one working week. It starts when you’ve decided on your business concept and want to trade legally, but you haven’t yet opened a bank account or received your CIPC notice. The tell-tale sign is that push to be ready before a paying client arrives, or the moment a supplier in Phalaborwa asks for your registration number. If you’re juggling multiple hats with a team of two to ten, start this ritual the Monday after your final business name shortlist.

Step-by-step: The launch week sequence
This ritual runs from Monday morning to Friday afternoon. Book up to 90 minutes each day for focused progress. Blend focus with flexibility, as local banks or CIPC systems sometimes run slow. Assign a lead, a checker, and a finisher, don’t try to do it solo if you can help it.
- Day 1: Double-check final business names for CIPC with two alternative options (30 minutes).
- Day 1: Prepare the CIPC registration forms and supporting ID for all directors or partners (45 minutes).
- Day 2: Submit CIPC application in the morning. Log the tracking number. (30 minutes)
- Day 2: Start compiling your bank FICA pack, ID, proof of address (not older than 3 months), CIPC tracking slip, SARS tax number (if you have one) (60 minutes).
- Day 3: Monitor CIPC for approval email, chase by phone if nothing by 2pm (20 minutes, plus hold times).
- Day 4: When CIPC arrives, scan all official documents and distribute to team (15 minutes).
- Day 4: Submit bank pack and book an appointment at your preferred branch (FNB Klerksdorp, for example) (30 minutes).
- Day 5: Attend bank appointment with originals (90 minutes including wait in queue). Collect temporary cheque book if offered.
- Any day: Log every completed step in your Launch Deck so nothing slips through.

Who does what in your small team
In a lean setup like Siphiwe’s, the business owner takes Lead. The Checker is often your trusted office admin or a part-time bookkeeper. The Finisher can be your partner, a junior ops hire, or anyone who notices small details (like expired proof of address or a missing director signature). For teams of up to ten, split the role of chasing CIPC and prepping the bank pack. Invite an outside accountant or a registered tax practitioner only for final SARS registration or when opening VAT201 profiles.

Common traps to watch for in SA
Banks in Klerksdorp, just like those in Durban or Rosebank, can be foggy about new FICA rules. Arrive with every original, especially if the bank has moved its supplier counter to a new floor without notice. CIPC sometimes rejects names if there’s a close match anywhere in its system. Don’t only rely on the portal search. In more than one case, a launch gets stuck a whole week over a tiny typo in a director’s ID number. Also, be sure to check your email spam folder for CIPC, especially after heavy Highveld storms which weirdly seems to confuse their email system alot.

Closing out and repeating the ritual
Once your CIPC confirmation and bank account are both in hand, gather your team for a 15-minute round-up. Record what tripped you up in the Launch Deck cadence, note which branch or supplier was quickest, and update your Launch Deck for the next time you spin up a new project or entity. If your team grows, or you plan a regional launch, say a satellite office in Phalaborwa, run this ritual again. If you had to chase the process much, consider running the full rituals playbook next time for more structure.
